Things To Do
Things to do near Club Wyndham Sundance Resort Onjuku, Chiba
- Onjuku Beach
This 2-kilometre stretch of white sand forms a crescent-shaped bay along the Pacific coast, and the swimming and surfing areas are clearly separated for safety. During the summer, beach huts sell fresh lobster and local seafood with spectacular sunrise views over the Pacific. Surfboard rentals cost around 1,000 yen per day.
- Tsukinosabaku Memorial Park
This coastal park is named after “Tsukinosabaku” (Desert Under the Moon), a children’s song written by poet Masao Kato in the 1920s. A bronze statue shows a prince and princess on camels under the moon. The monument was erected around 1969 with the poet’s approval. The park provides a quiet space for walks along the shore, and the combination of the statue, sea breeze and ocean views has made it popular with couples.
- Onjuku Water Park
Open from mid-July through the end of August, this seasonal facility is located near the beach, and offers water slides and pools for families. It’s a great alternative when ocean waves become too strong for young swimmers.
- Mexico Memorial Park
This hilltop park commemorates 30th September 1609, when the Spanish galleon San Francisco, en route from Manila to Acapulco, wrecked off the coast during a typhoon. Local villagers rescued 317 survivors, including Spanish colonial governor Don Rodrigo de Vivero. A 17-meter obelisk erected in 1928 marks this event, which established early ties between Japan, Spain, and Mexico. The park offers sweeping views of the harbour and coastline.
- Mother Farm
Located about an hour’s drive from Onjuku, Mother Farm is a 250-hectare agricultural theme park in Futtsu City. You can interact with animals like sheep, alpacas, rabbits, and guinea pigs, and participate in activities ranging from sheepherding shows to ziplining. The farm’s restaurants serve dishes made with fresh ingredients, including lamb burgers, and homemade dairy products. Mother Farm operates year-round, with select closures in December and January.
- Katsuura Marine Park Underwater Observatory
Just 20 minutes south of Onjuku, this unique attraction features Japan’s largest underwater observation tower in eastern Japan. The tower extends 8 meters below the sea surface, allowing visitors to observe diverse marine life in their natural habitat. The facility operates year-round and provides an educational experience for kids, families, and marine enthusiasts.
- Katsuura Morning Market
Recognised as one of Japan’s three great morning markets (alongside Wajima and Takayama), this 430-year-old tradition takes place daily in nearby Katsuura City. From the first to the fifteenth of each month, the market operates on Shimohonmachi Street and from the 16th to the end, it moves to the harbour area.
Vendors sell fresh seafood caught, locally grown vegetables, dried fish, and regional specialities. The market opens early (around 6:30am) and runs until mid-morning, offering an authentic glimpse into coastal Japanese life. This is an excellent destination for guests who want to experience local culture and purchase fresh ingredients for the resort’s barbecue facilities.

Located about 30 minutes inland from Onjuku in Otaki Town, Yoro Valley is a stunning natural gorge that showcases a different side of Chiba Prefecture. The valley features hiking trails of varying difficulty, ranging from 2 to 7 kilometres. The star attraction is Awamata Waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Chiba Prefecture, which cascades dramatically through the forested landscape.
The valley is magnificent in spring, when azaleas bloom and in autumn, when maple leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold. Multiple trails allow visitors to explore the “8 Scenic Points of Yoro”, including peaceful riverside walks and challenging mountain paths. This destination is great for nature lovers looking for interesting things to do in Onjuku.
